Dr. Werner Berg has practiced Child Psychology in Northern California for over 30 years

Dr. Berg has helped families strengthen relationships, solve problems, and understand the needs and communication styles of their children.

Even the best and most loving parents can't always be successful in dealing with angry depressed children and teens. Most children don't tell you when they are hurting to the point where a psychologist would help. The signs of depression and psychological pain aren't the same in children as in adults.

Helping children deal with anxiety and depression requires different techniques.
Careful evaluation of symptoms and causes is really important with children and a careful understanding of family issues and history should be elicited.
Anger symptoms are particularly difficult for the whole family as well as the individual child.

Adolescents present additional problems because of the physical and hormonal changes combined with what is frequently an initial resistance to the whole idea of psychological help; yet they are delightful to work with and usually respond well to open approaches to problems.

Children and teens are often quite sensitive to family stress, parental conflicts, separation, and losses. Divorce presents additional change and stress issues such as custody, visitation, parental loyalty, fear of abandonment, and economic uncertainty. It is quite common to see symptoms of many kinds during such familial stress. Family stresses aren't limited to adults; divorce doesn't only effect parents. Children aren't so easily fooled by parental pretense.

What exactly does Dr. Berg offer?

Helping parents with such issues as discipline, rewards, and consistency.
His expertise in dealing with divorced families, separated families and blended families helps these children deal with the different set of rules and values in the different homes to which they are required to adjust.

Behavioral problems, depression and anxiety often develop in the school setting. Dr. Berg offers evaluation, conferences with teachers and administrators when called for. He offers support to the parents to create a structured learning environment in the home as well as working directly with the child dealing with frustration and self esteem stemming from academic problems. Many children need assistance in establishing friendships. Friendships make the school experience more pleasurable for children.

 Angry children

A number of children develop the following symptoms usually after the age of 7:

stealing (shop lifting)
fire setting
encropresis
enuresis
a peculiar form of lying
resistance to bathing

If your child shows several of these symptoms seek professional help.
